Substation Designer – Power Distribution

Raleigh, North Carolina Movement Search & Delivery   www.movementsearch.com    is working with a leading supplier of technical services to the electric utility, power generation, industrial, renewable and energy industries. Due to the company’s growth, they have recently opened a position for a Substation Designer.

What you will do: The Substation Designer performs high voltage substation (69kV and up) design, both physical and protection and control. The position creates/modifies substation design drawings using the Bentley Substation design software, produces new drawings from examples of previous projects and/or standards, reviews project schedules and coordinates activities of drafter/designer team to insure timely progress of projects. The role calculates cable lengths, conduit fill, or other basic tasks, calculates ground grid requirements to IEEE standards using task-specific software, and develops design documents, drawings, and bills of materials. Additionally, the Bentley Substation Designer brings potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party and travels out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.

What you will need: Associate’s Degree and high-voltage substation design experience. Neta certified experience highly preferred. Working knowledge of the Bentley Substation design software package.  Demonstrated advanced knowledge in electrical principles and substation design, and/or related experience. Extensive knowledge of the Bentley Substation design software package and 3D drafting/design. Extensive knowledge of various CADD programs, including AutoCAD (all versions) and Microstation (version /J and newer). Knowledge of the major components of a high-voltage substation. Knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation. Extensive knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals. Knowledge of control circuits. Knowledge of general high-voltage electric field theory. Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NESC, and applicable IEEE, ANSI). Basic knowledge of civil / structural codes and standards (NESC, and applicable IEEE, ANSI, AISC, and ACI). Knowledge of the function of major electrical equipment. Knowledge of ground grid theory and design.
