Our 50-year-old client is stable, growing and paid out their bonuses above 100% for the last 4 years and look to continue with strong growth. Because of this, they have a newly created position for a Plastics Tooling Manager.
What you will do: The Plastics Tooling Manager is responsible for ensuring successful, cost-effective, and timely injection mold tooling management for all assigned programs. The role manages/assesses the performance of tooling suppliers, taking appropriate action to ensure successful outcomes and maintaining an adequate network of qualified tooling suppliers, while also preparing/issuing detailed RFQ’s to tooling suppliers for new business quotes. The position provides insight and alternatives to the product engineers and product designers to enhance the manufacturability of products, oversees tooling trials, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and transitioning tools from trial to production, and manages the post launch lessons learned specifically for injection mold tooling. Additionally, the Plastics Tooling Manager evaluates each item for disposition to improve tooling standards, design for manufacturing guidelines and/or engineering design guidelines, evaluates low-cost alternatives to reduce tooling costs, and assesses new materials and new tooling processes.
What you need: Current experience in automotive management. Knowledgeable of CAD systems/software for product and tool designs. Excellent knowledge of injection molded tool design. Experience with APQP, GD&T, automotive quality and appearance standards, and grain requirements. Experienced with tool designs including runner-less (Sequential Valve Gate Hot Manifolds), two shot and insert molding. Knowledge of glass mineral filled nylon and other structural resins.
