Optical Engineer

Des Plaines, Illinois – Movement Search & Delivery   www.movementsearch.com/jobs    is working with a growing, multi-billion dollar manufacturing client with headquarters in Atlanta. Due to their growth, they have a newly created position for an Optical Engineer.

What you will do: The Illumination Engineer is responsible for providing design support in the innovation and development in areas related to lighting science. The role provides support in primary activities such as optical design, lighting research, technical software development, photometric engineering, some electrical engineering and the integration of this science with the other disciplines, while also assisting in research to improve and provide innovations in the field of optical design. The position designs reflector and refractive systems using all types of current lamp sources to support product design, investigates/evaluates patents for new and existing technologies to confirm proposed designs or innovative designs do not cause infringement, and works with product groups of product and market development during the planning and analysis phase of the product. Additionally, the Illumination Engineer investigates new and more efficient methods of software development, supports/collaborates on proposed testing procedures for new lighting technologies, and supports company on any lens or reflector changes necessary for tooling modifications to determine optical performance.

What you will need: Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering or Illumination. Working knowledge of SolidWorks and LightTools. Knowledge in current lamp technology including but not limited in Incandescent, HID, Fluorescent, and LED technologies. Proven knowledge of lens and reflector design. Knowledge of lighting calculations, photometry, lighting application engineering.
