Lansing, Michigan – Movement Search and Delivery www.movementsearch.com is working with a growing, diversified, publicly traded 40-year-old company that is a leading supplier to the commercial automotive industry. Due to their growth, they have a newly created position for a Director of Engineering, southwest of Lansing.
What you will do: The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading an engineering team of approximately 175 distributed within the business units – Fleet Vehicle Services, Specialty Vehicle, and Emergency Response. The role organizes the engineering team into a centralized entity by creating product, process, and core technological teams to create a unified engineering function, apply best practices, create common goals and objectives, attract leading talent, and identify opportunities for efficiency. The position sets the strategic direction of the product portfolio strategy in partnership with management team and Board of Directors, monitors program budgets and overspending, and assures the engineering team has the subject matter expertise required to execute against the company’s growing product plan. Additionally, the Director of Engineering maintains current product engineering activity for open cost and quality issues, provides direction and guidance to multiple engineering centers of expertise, and communicates and sets expectations with the engineering teams.
What you will need: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Advanced experience in engineering management. In-depth knowledge of capital equipment development, design, and engineering. Understanding of commercial concerns and the ability to manage a project to budget. Strong understanding of modern engineering techniques. Experience leading a team of 150+ engineerings.
