Brake Friction Formulation Engineer

Lexington, Kentucky – Movement Search & Delivery   www.movementsearch.com   is working with a leading US based aftermarket automotive parts manufacturer. Due to their recent growth, the company has created a position for a Brake Friction Formulation Engineer.

What you will do: The Brake Friction Formulation Engineer is responsible for developing new friction material formulations and new products to meet customer and market requirements. The role designs formulas to meet performance, life, noise and cost targets, evaluates raw materials for optimal results, and evaluates material suppliers for capability to provide consistent quality material. The position creates material specifications to enable manufacturing plants to maintain consistently high quality product and compiles data, effectively presenting and communicating technical data to others.

What you will need: Bachelor’s DEgree in Chemistry. Hands on experience formulating disc pad friction materials for OE and/or aftermarket. Understanding customer requirements in US, Europe, China and/or India markets. Understanding dyno test protocols for FMVSS, REG 90, GMW and GB specs. Experience with multiple friction processing methods and equipment. Success in manufacturing ceramic formulations with low- or no-copper. Working knowledge of raw materials used in the friction industry, variations in grades and interactions. Experience developing products using design or gate reviews, DRBFM, DFMEA. Experience working with TS16949 Quality System. Understanding of EH&S constraints on friction material formulations and processing. Ability to travel for 2-3 weeks at a time, twice a year, internationally.
