Washington, District of Columbia – Movement Search & Delivery www.movementsearch.com/jobs is working with a growing, multi-billion dollar manufacturing client. Due to their growth, they have a newly created position for an Advanced R&D Engineer.
What you will do: The Advanced R&D Engineer researches/designs mechanical designs pertaining to innovative lighting technologies, develops concepts, designs and prototypes of project related assemblies, and researches/implements novel methods of thermal dissipation. The role works in a creative, collaborative environment to define, develop, and implement futuristic concepts in opto-mechanical designs, participates in IP evaluation, writing and review of patents, and develops novel ideas that employ solid state lighting devices, light distribution, networking and internet of things. The position develops associated hardware designs, that may include LED light engines, luminaire designs, new optical methods, while also carrying out simulation and characterization as needed. Additionally, the Advanced R&D Engineer collaborates with other research organizations to bring in new ideas and concepts and works with third party vendors for any characterization or prototype development work.
What you will need: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Physics. Work experience in technology development. Diverse subject matter knowledge in fields such as robotics, computer vision, sensors, communication protocols, MEMS, thin films and nano-photonics. Proficiency in mechanical design, opto-mechanical design and modelling using CAD tools (such as SolidWorks). Proficiency in thermal analysis and related simulation tools (such as COMSOL). Proficiency in using FEA (Finite element analysis) tools for thermal and dynamic and static analysis. Broad knowledge of materials such as metals, glass, plastics, nanomaterials such as quantum dots and related processes such as injection molding, glass pressing and nano-scale fabrication. Broad knowledge base in mechanical engineering such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer and structural mechanics. Knowledge of 3D printing and next generation materials for 3D printing. Hands-on experience in machine shop and mechanical tools. Experience with Solid State Lighting and other novel light generation sources and experience with Optical Simulation tools such as TracePro is a plus.
