Welding Engineer


Chicago, Illinois – Movement Search & Delivery   www.movementsearch.com/jobs    is working with a leading tier one automotive supplier.  Due to their growth, they have a newly opened position for a Welding Engineer 

What you will do: The l Welding Engineer supports productivity, quality, and cost improvement goals, as well as new product implementation related to welding, metallurgy and operations along with serving as the catalyst to stimulate manufacturing-related innovations. The role provides hands-on support through troubleshooting welding process/quality/safety issues on equipment, processes, and tooling and taking the necessary actions to correct them and oversees the qualification of welders and welding operations. The position evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs, applies knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, and provides support for the procurement of major and minor pieces of welding capital equipment. Additionally, the Metallurgical Welding Engineer coordinates with/supports other division functions (i.e. Production, Quality, Facilities, Health and Safety, Environment, Product Design) and outside contractors and customers.

What you will need: Bachelor’s Degree in weld/robotics.   Current experience in metallurgical engineering. Strong welding ability. Thorough knowledge of the GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) process. Welding Inspector certification. Proficiency in AutoCAD. Experience with robotic welding.  Six or more years of related technical, hands-on experience in manual and automated welding processes. Working knowledge MIG welding processes  Knowledge of manufacturing processes, product designs, safety, quality and workflow  Excellent “hands on” welding and training skills. Knowledge in robotic welding and material handling applications. Knowledge in robotic programming (ex. ABB, Fanuc robots, etc.) Understanding of electrical/controls circuitry and schematics. Knowledge of AutoCAD and weld drawings Knowledge of NEC, OSHA and machine safety, electrical safety, robotic safety and machine guarding components; high level of safety awareness in a manufacturing environment.
